The Scientific Question
Dietary protein supplies amino acids required for muscle protein turnover, enzymes, transport proteins, immune mediators, skin and coat, and tissue maintenance. In older dogs, preserving lean mass and functional capacity may require attention not only to total protein, but also to digestibility, amino-acid balance, energy intake, and individual health status.
